Former Prime Minister condemned the vandalism during Christmas (Photo- X)
ANI, New Delhi. Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda condemned the incidents of vandalism and attacks during Christmas celebrations in several states. He demanded strict action against those involved in such acts.
He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for attending the Christmas prayer meeting in Delhi and showing respect for Christianity. Police have arrested four members of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad in connection with the vandalism at St. Mary's English School in Nalbari, Assam.
It is noteworthy that in many states including Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Odisha, Christian communities had received complaints of vandalism, threats and harassment during Christmas celebrations.
Strict action will be taken against miscreants: Himanta
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government is fully committed to maintaining peace and communal harmony. He said that the miscreants involved in the vandalism at St. Mary's English School in Panigaon under Belsore police station of Nalbari district have been arrested. Assam Police took prompt action and strict action will be taken as per law.
