TMC leader Mukul Roy passes away
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Well-known leader of West Bengal and former Union Railway Minister Mukul Roy died in Kolkata due to cardiac arrest on the morning of 23 February (Monday). He was 71 years old. Roy, considered one of the most effective strategists of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), had fought a long legal battle in his long political career over switching sides, ministerial posts and defection. He breathed his last at around 1:30 am in Apollo, a private hospital in Salt Lake.
Mukul Roy's health problems
Roy had largely withdrawn from active politics in recent years due to his poor health. Doctors revealed in early 2023 that he was suffering from dementia and Parkinson's disease, which had significantly reduced his thinking and physical abilities.
Had brain surgery for hydrocephalus in March 2023. This disorder is caused by accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, which increases intracranial pressure. His condition worsened after he suffered a head injury in a fall at his home in July 2024 and underwent surgery to remove a blood clot.
He also suffered from chronic diabetes, difficulty breathing and persistently high blood sugar levels, which are why his colleagues said his health had become increasingly weak in his last years.
