Giri has bought and sold more than 80 properties in three years. symbolic
Jagran correspondent, Haldwani. Since November 2024, 20 people have filed complaints with SAT against contractor Dhananjay Giri, who committed fraud in the name of buying and selling land. Dhananjay and his associates have cheated people of more than Rs 10 crore.
On the other hand, since 2018 till now, nine cases have been registered against the contractor. Police have also filed charge sheets in every case. But the victims did not gain anything from this. Distressed people are also forced to make rounds of police stations and posts. Now the victims have got hope due to the instructions of IG Kumaon. After identifying the assets of the fraudsters, preparations are being made to return the lost money to the people through the court. Cases ranging from fraud to check bounce have been registered against contractor Dhananjay Giri. In the name of buying and selling land at other places including Nainital Road, he has grabbed people's savings. At the same time, the SIT (Special Investigation Team) formed on the instructions of the IG is engaged in the investigation of this case since November. When the team collected information about the victims, many people themselves approached the SIT. Investigation revealed that 20 people had defrauded Dhananjay of more than Rs 10 crore.
On the other hand, in the last three years, information about purchase and sale of more than 80 properties in the name of Dhananjay and his associates has also been received. Now through the Revenue Department it will be found out how much property is still left in their name. Based on the tehsil records, the report will be sent to the court. According to the IG office, there is a rule under Section 107 of the Indian Justice Security Code that the property acquired fraudulently by the accused can be sold through the judicial process and returned to the victims according to their share. For this, coordination with the district administration is necessary. The SIT is now working in this direction. Complaints led to the dissolution of the district level SIT. District level SIT was also formed in different districts. Which used to investigate cases related to land and other frauds. But many policemen involved in the SIT have received complaints in the past. After which IG Kumaon Ridhim Aggarwal has issued orders to dissolve these SITs. Now in such cases the initial investigation will be done by the concerned CO. At the same time, case reports related to fraud have also been sought from all the districts of Kumaon. The investigators could not proceed further with the notice. Despite FIRs being filed continuously, Dhananjay and his associates continued cheating people. That means the accused had no fear of the law. The IG office also believes that earlier the investigators used to fulfill their responsibility only by handing over the notice (41A). This is the reason why no victim could get the money. Therefore, SIT is now busy investigating this entire matter. Along with the common people and businessmen of the city, Dhananjay has also defrauded a senior PCS officer. The officer had also registered a case in Kathgodam in July 2025. In the name of providing a flat in the under construction housing project in Damuwadhunga, the contractor had taken an advance of Rs 5 lakh from the officer. Later it came to light that the flat in whose name the agreement was made. Dhananjay took a loan from the bank in his name.
