'Gang War' Like Situation In Bareilly At Midnight: Villagers Surrounded SOG Team Considering Them As Thieves, Constables Ran Away To Save Their Lives

Jagran correspondent, Bareilly. SOG, which had come to catch stolen batteries, was attacked on Thursday night. The team had stopped the battery laden truck on the way to Faridapur Inayat Khan village, but the driver of the dumper following it became the attacker. He attacked the soldier with a stick, then called a crowd of dozens from the village.

The mob attacked the SOG soldiers by spreading rumors about the arrival of thieves. After half an hour of chaos, forces from two police stations arrived and SOG could be freed from the crowd. Late night, half a dozen people, including the driver of a truck loaded with batteries, were caught by the police. SOG-II had received information that a truck carrying stolen batteries was going near Bada Bypass.

On this basis, after giving information to SOG in-charge Devendra Singh Dhama at 10.30 pm, four constables reached there to conduct the raid. According to the police, the team had stopped the battery laden truck on the way to Faridapur Inayat Khan village. At the same time, an empty dumper was coming behind the truck. Seeing the plainclothes policemen standing there stopping the truck, the dumper driver started abusing as to why the road was blocked.

Despite the introduction by the SOG soldiers, he became furious. He took out a stick from the dumper and hit constable Madhur on the head. Before other policemen could retaliate, the driver of the battery laden truck started running away. Two constables ran to catch him, the remaining two constables started having an argument with the dumper driver.

Meanwhile, the dumper driver made a call and called a mob from the village, which surrounded the four constables and started beating them. Seeing the situation getting out of control, the soldiers informed the control room that an attack had taken place. After this, forces arrived from Cantt and Bithri Chainpur police station and the soldiers could be saved.

Meanwhile the attackers fled. SSP Anurag Arya said that the SOG constable who had gone to catch the battery theft was hit on the head by the dumper driver with a stick. Half a dozen attackers have been caught and they are being interrogated.
