Jagran correspondent, outer Delhi. Maurya Enclave police station has arrested a fraudster who pretended to be a bank officer and cheated a woman by giving her a lift in a car. The accused has nine criminal cases registered against him and is wanted in seven cases.
Police have recovered the Centro car used in the crime from the possession of the accused. The accused has been identified as Rahul alias Ajay. Rahul is originally a resident of Pratapgarh village Kushmer in Uttar Pradesh. The accused had committed the crime on January 18.
Additional Police Commissioner of North West District, Bhisham Singh said that Maurya Enclave police station received a complaint from a woman about cheating of gold and cash. The complainant told that she was going from her home to her maternal home in Uttam Nagar. She was waiting for the bus at Haiderpur bus stand when a young man came to her. Also a Centro car came and stopped there. The people in the car introduced themselves as bank employees and offered them a lift.
After sitting in the car, the accused, on the pretext of verification, asked for gold jewelery and cash from the victim and assured her that he too was depositing his money. Falling prey to his trap, the complainant gave him two rings, two ear-rings and Rs. 5,000. After this the accused asked the woman to quickly get down from the car and handed her an envelope. When the envelope was opened there were only papers in it. While the accused ran away with gold and cash.
The police formed a team under the leadership of station in-charge Madan Meena and started the investigation. CCTV footage was examined. In which the car used in the crime was traced near Loni border. After doing technical investigation, the police got information on Sunday that the accused was going to come to Model Town area by car. From where the police arrested the accused Rahul alias Ajay. The police confiscated the Centro car from his possession.
The accused told that he along with his two associates Manoj and Amit had committed the crime. He told that by posing as bank officers, they lured the victim and committed the crime. Rahul is wanted in seven cases. Police are making efforts to recover the belongings of the complainant and arrest other absconding accused.
