Will There Be A Check On Rising School Fees In Delhi? The Government Shrugged Off The Supreme Court

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the Delhi government, informed the bench.

Digital Desk, New Delhi. The Delhi government on Monday told the Supreme Court that the new law governing fees in private schools in the national capital will not be applicable in the academic year 2025-26.

This was said before a bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe, which was hearing a batch of petitions related to the implementation of the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fee Determination and Regulation) Act, 2025.

The law will not be applicable in the current academic year

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the Delhi government, told the bench that this law will not be applicable in the current academic year. The bench gave leave to raise all the issues before the Delhi High Court, which is hearing petitions challenging the 2025 Act and its subsequent rules.

The Supreme Court was hearing petitions, including those challenging the High Court's January 8 order which had refused to stay the notification directing private schools to set up fee regulation committees.

But the deadline for formation of such committees was extended. During the hearing, one of the lawyers appearing in the case said that the High Court should decide on this issue as soon as possible because many schools and lakhs of children are involved in it. The High Court is aware of this.
