Jagran correspondent, Gayaji. The sensational gold robbery case that came to light in Gaya Railway Station area has raised serious questions on the functioning of the Railway Police. In the case of robbery of one kg gold in Howrah-Jodhpur Express, the responsibility of taking action finally fell on Gaya Railway Police Station Head himself.

Police station incharge Rajesh Kumar Singh has been suspended after preliminary investigation found him involved in the robbery conspiracy. Along with him, four constables of Gaya Railway Station have also been suspended. A case has also been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PC Act).

The case was registered on his own statement

According to the Railway Police, on November 21, it was reported that one kg of gold, estimated to be worth more than Rs 1 crore, was looted in the Howrah-Jodhpur Express between Koderma-Gaya. In this regard, Gaya Railway Station case number 334/25 was registered by Police Station Head Rajesh Kumar Singh on his own written statement. Section 309(4) of BNS was imposed in the case.

However, when the layer-by-layer investigation of the case started, a shocking revelation came to light. Investigation revealed that the police station incharge was also involved in the same robbery in which a case was registered. After this, senior officials took immediate action and suspended him.

Action against four constables also

Four policemen of Gaya Railway Station, Karan Kumar, Abhishek Chaturvedi, Ranjay Kumar and Anand Mohan were also found involved in this robbery case. Suspending all of them, a separate FIR has been registered against them in Gaya Railway Station under sections of robbery and PC Act.

It was told that these policemen misused their position and authority and carried out the entire conspiracy. Railway SP has confirmed the suspension of four constables including the police station incharge.

Conspiracy hatched outside jurisdiction

According to sources, the jurisdiction of Gaya Railway Police does not extend to Koderma. Despite this, the suspended policemen along with private person Parvez Alam and former driver of Gaya Railway Station Sitaram reached Koderma.

Information was received that Dhananjay Shashwat, staff of Kanpur gold trader Manoj Soni, was traveling in the general bogie of Howrah-Jodhpur Express on November 21 with one kg of gold.

Under the scheme, everyone reached Koderma from Gaya by some other train. As soon as the Howrah-Jodhpur Express stopped at Koderma station, all of them boarded it. Before reaching Gaya, Dhananjay Shashwat was forcibly deboarded from the train, beaten and robbed of gold biscuits.

SIT formed on MP's information

After the incident, Khagaria MP Rajesh Verma informed the Patna Railway SP about the matter. After this, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of three DSPs of Patna Railway Police was formed. The entire matter came to light only in the SIT investigation.

Senior Railway Police officials say that the investigation is still going on and in the coming days, action may also be taken against other Railway Police officers and personnel involved in this scandal.
