Dialogue thread, Dobhi. There is a provision to serve eggs to children in the mid-day meal on Fridays, but these days, due to the rising prices of eggs, the heads of primary and middle schools are facing serious problems.
The price of an egg has been fixed at Rs 5 by the government, whereas its price in the market has reached Rs 8. In such a situation, school heads have to buy eggs from their own pockets, which has increased their problems.
Guddi Kumari, headmistress of middle school Baheradih, said that it is not possible to provide eggs for five rupees. The government should find a solution to this soon. Chandrashekhar, head of middle school Garvaiya, said that due to increase in the price of eggs, a difficult situation has arisen in front of the administration.
Children get angry and even complain when they do not get eggs. Ramu, head of middle school Kharanti, said that it is mandatory to provide food as per the menu, that is why sometimes even the salary has to be spent.
Siya Devi, headmistress of Nadarpur Middle School, said that children get angry when they do not get eggs and even parents and public representatives have raised objections, but no one is paying attention to the increased price of eggs.
Mid-day meal in-charge Rajiv Kumar said that eggs are to be served in all schools on Friday, while there is a possibility of the price of eggs increasing in the cold season. School heads demand that the government should fix the amount according to the increased market price of eggs, so that quality food can be provided to the children on time.
