Samvad Sutra, Shahpur (Ara). The process of rehabilitation of erosion victims of Jawainia village of the block area has been started by the administration on the land allotted to the south of Biloti village of the area. However, basic facilities have not yet been arranged at the rehabilitation site, due to which the affected families are facing immense difficulties.
According to the information, 70 erosion affected families of Javainiya village have been given land certificates of three decimals each. An assistance amount of Rs 1 lakh twenty thousand has also been provided to each family after their houses were lost due to river erosion.
Only one polythene sheet available by the administration
Despite this, the condition of the rehabilitation site is bad. The victims say that the land on which settlement is being made is about 7 to 8 feet crater-like, which they are being asked to live on without leveling it.
At present, only one polythene sheet has been provided by the administration. About a dozen families have been living on it during the day by building temporary huts and returning to Jawiniya before evening.
Neither drinking water facility nor electricity
Erosion victims Jhakad Bind and Sonmati Bind said that there is neither drinking water facility nor electricity at the rehabilitation site. One has to walk about a kilometer to get drinking water. There is a rough unpaved road to reach there, which becomes even more difficult during the rainy season.
The most serious thing is that high tension electric wire is passing over the allotted land. Due to this there remains a possibility of accident. Due to it being a deserted place, there is concern among the families about the safety. People say that unless proper arrangements for water, electricity and roads are made, it is not possible to live there permanently.
Demand of victims to provide electricity and water before settlement
The victims allege that the administration is repeatedly asking them to settle at the same site, while basic needs like electricity and water have not been met yet.
Here, Circle Officer Anand Prakash said that the rehabilitation work of erosion victims is being done on priority basis. He said that soon the arrangement of road and drinking water will be ensured till the said place. Also, the beneficiaries whose land is coming under the high tension wire are being provided alternative land nearby.
