Emphasis is being laid on installing smart meters in rural areas along with the district headquarters. Officials are closely monitoring this, however, the focus is on replacing ordinary cables with armored cables.

The executive body which claims to install armored cable on paper is replacing the incomplete cable in some houses, while in some houses smart meters have been installed on the old cable.

Along with financial irregularities running into lakhs of rupees, the intentions of the Power Corporation to stop electricity theft also seem to be fading. Smart meters are being installed from the district headquarters to rural areas without installing armored cables, ignoring the rules.

Armored cable installation instructions

35 thousand smart meters have been installed in 41 power sub-stations connected to the four divisions of the Power Corporation. The target is to install smart meters in the homes of four lakh 30 thousand consumers. In order to install smart meter, there are instructions to replace the ordinary cable from pole to meter and install armored cable in the houses. Armored cable has not been installed in more than half of the consumers.

By not installing armored cables with smart meters, the executing agency is engaged in misappropriation of crores of rupees. The meter is being installed without armored cable. On the protest of the consumers, half incomplete cables of five meters, four meters and six meters are given. Whereas as per the rules of the corporation, armored cable from pole to smart meter is mandatory.

While installing smart meters in the city, armored cable was installed, but in most of the places in rural areas, armored cable was not installed. Consumers of Jalalpur, Alapur and Tanda, Neeraj, Sandeep and Manoj Kumar told that the meter has been installed by the organization only after paying half the amount.

Cable was installed from pole to meter at private expense. Smart meter installed at home, but armored cable was not found. Cables have been installed at their own expense, meters have been installed by giving half incomplete cables of 5 and 10 meters to some people in the village. -Sanjay Vishwakarma, Tara Khurd.

Armored cable was not received from the company. Smart meter was installed on ordinary dilapidated cable. When the employees who installed the meter were asked for the cable, they refused to give the cable. They forcibly installed the meter and went away, whereas when we inquired in the electricity office, it was said that armored cable along with smart meter is mandatory. It is mandatory to install armored cable with smart meter. The executing agency will investigate and take action against installing meters on ordinary cables.
