Aditya Raj, Gurugram. Inspector Sumitra Godara, guilty of taking bribe in exchange for issuing GST number, was dismissed by Excise and Taxation Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh. A recommendation was also sent to the state government to dismiss ETO Roshanlal, another convict in the case.
This strict action has created panic among departmental officers and employees. Many officers and employees are facing allegations of taking bribe. All the accused are out on bail.
Last month, on January 9, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Diwan had sentenced Excise and Taxation Department's ETO Roshanlal and Inspector Sumitra Godara to five years of imprisonment each, after holding them guilty in the bribery case. Both are in jail. After studying the court's decision, departmental commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh dismissed the inspector.
The Commissioner has the power to dismiss even the Inspector. The recommendation to dismiss the ETO was sent to the state government. It is said that the dismissal of the ETO is also certain because after the punishment there is no other option other than dismissal.
Businessman Mohit had applied for getting a GST number in the Faridabad office of the Excise and Taxation Department. Citing some shortcomings in the application file, the Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) Roshanlal posted in Faridabad had rejected it. When he applied again, he was asked to meet Excise and Taxation Inspector (Inspector) Sumitra Godara posted in Gurugram.
It is alleged that upon meeting, the inspector demanded Rs 7 lakh. Also asked to give Rs 2 lakh as advance. The businessman complained about this to the Anti Corruption Bureau. The Bureau team laid a trap and arrested the inspector from Gurugram for taking bribe on May 9, 2022.
After this, ETO was also arrested from Faridabad. On the basis of all the evidence and statements of witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunil Diwan sentenced both of them to five years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh each.
Efforts will be made to improve the image
In view of the disgrace the department is facing due to this matter, now any officer or employee caught taking bribe will not be deployed in the field further. Department Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh has made it clear that there will be no compromise on corruption at any cost. Strictest action will be taken against whoever is caught taking bribe.
The image of the department and the government has been affected due to the case of ETO Roshanlal and Inspector Sumitra Godara. Officials against whom there are complaints of corruption will be strictly monitored. They will be removed from public dealing.
Officials have also been asked to identify deficiencies in any file at once and make every possible effort to correct them. If deficiencies are pointed out again and again, the working style of the concerned officer will be examined.
