Nepal Gen-Ji movement conspiracy (file photo)
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Nepal's former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak claimed on Monday that the incidents of vandalism and arson that took place on the second day of the Gen-Ji movement in September were the result of a well-planned conspiracy against the country and democracy. The former Home Minister was summoned to the inquiry commission under the leadership of former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki.
Let us tell you that on September 8 and 9, violence broke out during the youth-led Gen-Ji (youth born between 1997-2012) movement in protest against corruption, nepotism and social media ban in the country, due to which Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had to resign from the post. A total of 77 people were killed in this violence, which included 22 youth.
The former minister, who appeared before the high-level inquiry commission, claimed that the violence that took place across the country on September 9 was not spontaneous, but there was a well-planned conspiracy behind it. The Nepali Congress leader said that he had resigned immediately, taking full responsibility for the incident.
He said that a wide difference can be seen in the protests of September 8 and 9 as it was infiltrated and turned violent. He said that the violent incidents that took place on September 9 were an attack on the country's unity, honor and democracy.
No Nepali Patriot Singh can even think of setting fire to the Darbar Secretariat, Supreme Court, Parliament House and the President's Office. During two hours of questioning, the author advised the Commission that it should investigate who infiltrated the movement and who planned the September 9 attacks and who executed those plans.
He said that along with considering the demands of the youth, separate action should be taken against criminal acts. The author has been asked to appear before the commission on Wednesday also. Commission spokesperson Bigyan Raj Sharma said that former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will also have to appear before the Commission to record his statement. (With inputs from news agency PTI)
