Silk anklets, anklets and toe rings, which were once the identity of the women of Kashi, have now almost disappeared from the markets. In major bullion areas like Godaulia, Chowk, Vishweshwarganj, there is silence at the shops due to less movement of customers.
Last year, in the month of January, the price of silver was around Rs 80 to 90 thousand per kg. On the first Tuesday of the new year, silver increased by Rs 13 thousand in a day and reached Rs 2,55,600 per kg. Just 10 days ago, silver had reached Rs 2.62 lakh per kg.
Four days later, on January 1, the first day of the new year, the price fell by about Rs 27 thousand and reached Rs 2.35 lakh per kg. Once again the price of silver has started increasing. This wild rise has put silver out of reach of the common consumer. At the same time, per hundred silver coins reached Rs 2.5 lakh. Women turned away from shopping: Women say that now light and designed jewelery is being given priority instead of heavy jewellery. Aarti Chauhan told that due to increase in prices the choice has to be changed. Shweta Pathak says that due to inflation it is becoming difficult to buy jewelery for festivals and weddings.

The businessman said that 30 years ago gold was Rs 3,000 per 10 grams, today the price of silver has become Rs 2,000 per 10 grams.
