Samvad Sutra, Shyampur (Haridwar). A makhane elephant has died in a mutual conflict near Khara outpost of Shyampur range of Haridwar forest division. According to Forest Department officials, after a mutual conflict, the tiger also attacked the injured elephant and left it bleeding.
The tiger has also hunted the elephant by using the elephant's ears and its back. The team of doctors has done post-mortem of the elephant's dead body and buried it.
Poonam Kainthola, Sub Divisional Forest Officer of Haridwar Forest Division, said that there is a Khara post at the junction of Shyampur Range and Chilla Range, where forest personnel were on patrol on Monday morning.
Then they saw an elephant lying at a distance of 200 meters from the post. When they approached it with great deliberation, they found injuries and blood marks on the elephant's body.
Traces of struggle were also visible in the surrounding soil. As soon as the information was received, Forest Range Officer, Shyampur Vinay Rathi, reached the spot along with senior officers and Dr. Amit Dhyani and Park's Dr. Vivekananda Sati.
Investigation revealed that the Makhane elephant had a conflict with another elephant, after which footprints and claw marks of a tiger were found at many places in the dead elephant's body and the flesh was missing at many places, due to which it is being speculated that the elephant might have been attacked by a tiger when it was injured.
Sub Divisional Forest Officer Poonam Kainthola said that the meat was missing from below the ears of the elephant and its rear part had also been hunted. The team of doctors buried the elephant's body after conducting a health checkup. Dr. Amit Dhyani said that the age of the elephant is estimated to be between 30 to 35 years.
