State Bureau, Chandigarh. Gurvinder Singh alias Guri, accused of murdering Gurlal, cousin of terrorist Goldie Brar, was shot dead in broad daylight on Wednesday. The incident took place near the SSP office at 3.30 pm. Two miscreants riding a black Pulsar bike fired about 15 rounds at Gurvinder, in which he was hit by three bullets and died on the spot. Gurvinder was produced before the Mohali district court in another drug smuggling case.
Police are considering it to be the result of murder, rivalry and revenge. According to eyewitnesses, one miscreant was wearing a cap and his face was covered, while the other is said to be a Sardar. Some time after the incident, a post circulated on the internet media in which terrorists Goldie Brar and Rohit Godara claimed responsibility for the murder.
It was said in the post that this incident was done to avenge the murder of his brother. Police have registered an FIR against Goldie Brar in this case. According to DIG Rupnagar Range Nanak Singh, preliminary investigation has revealed that Gurvinder had come for the hearing of a case related to opium smuggling.
After the court proceedings, he was about to sit in his car near the main gate of the SSP office when the miscreants who had already ambushed him started firing indiscriminately. He died on the spot after being hit by several bullets in the head and mouth.
Gurvinder's wife was also the target of the attackers, but she was saved as the bullet narrowly missed her head. On the basis of the wife's statement, a prima facie case has been registered against Satinderpal Singh alias Goldie Brar under sections 103(1), 61(2) of the Indian Justice Code and section 25 of the Arms Act at Sohana police station.
