Good News For Munger, Preparations For Flight From Safiabad Airport Intensified, Feasibility Study Has Been Approved In The Budget.

Good news for Munger: Safiabad airport construction.

Jagran correspondent, Munger. Efforts to operate a 19-seat aircraft from Munger's Safiabad airport now seem to be gaining momentum. In the budget presented by the state government on Tuesday, a provision of Rs 2.43 crore has been made for the feasibility study of Munger airport. With this amount, Madhubani, Valmikinagar, Saharsa, Veerpur and Bhagalpur as well as Munger airport will also be studied.

After completion of the study, its report will be submitted to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), on the basis of which the further process will be decided. At present the runway of Safiabad airport has a length of 758 meters and width of about 25 meters, while the safe takeoff and landing of a 19-seat aircraft requires a minimum of 1250 to 1400 meters of length and about 70 meters of width.

Land acquisition will be mandatory for the expansion of the runway. Once the land acquisition process is completed, it will pave the way for development of runway expansion, terminal facilities, safety standards and other infrastructure. If a 19-seat aircraft comes into operation from here, the surrounding districts including Munger will get direct benefits.

This will open new possibilities in the fields of business, tourism and health services. Also, local people will get convenience in reaching big cities and the economic development of the area will get a boost. The provision of funds for feasibility study in the budget has further strengthened the hope of starting air service in Munger. The residents of the district have welcomed this decision of the government.

need to pay attention to the current situation

The present condition of the runway and airport lounge, constructed about nine years ago at a cost of about Rs 8 crore, is worrying. Thieves have taken out even the windows and doors of the lounge. After the additional gate built by breaking the boundary wall during the Prime Minister's program was not repaired, the airport complex has become a pasture for animals. Since the construction of the runway, local people are seen learning to drive bikes and four-wheelers instead of planes. At present helicopter landing takes place only during election meetings.

AAI team came in 2025

In September 2025, a three-member team of Airport Authority of India (AAI) had reached Safiabad Airport for OLS (Obstacle Limitation Surface) survey. The surface survey of the airport was conducted by analysts Praveen Kumar and Nizcool under the leadership of Yogendra Kumar, senior analyst, GIS (Geographical Information System) of AAI. During that time, Senior Analyst Yogendra Kumar had told that the length of the present runway is 758 meters and width is about 25 meters, without increasing which it is not possible to operate aircraft from here.
