Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. The script of committing a robbery in the city after being released on bail was written inside the jail itself. Its mastermind was Devendra Nishad alias Dayanand alias Diana, a resident of Rajahi village, who after being released on bail from jail in November, himself got the bail of two associates to carry out the crime. He called his associates to commit the crime at the cement merchant's house, but due to a misunderstanding, they entered the house of a retired accountant located next door.
Police investigation has revealed that Diana came out of jail on 25 November 2025. As soon as he came out, he started efforts to get his old comrades out of jail as per a pre-planned plan. In this sequence, he got the bail of two criminals who were jailed for theft of Rs 45 lakh in Kotwali area.
These include Rajkumar Singh alias Tinku, a resident of Hridayapatti village located in Madhuban police station area of Mau district. Apart from this, Ramraksha alias Teju Yadav, a resident of Vistar Nagar of Chiluatal police station area, was also one of those, for whom Diana got bail.
After the robbery at the house of retired accountant Balendra Singh, when the police started verification of the criminals released from jail, Diana's role came to the fore as suspicious. Investigation revealed that he had got the bail of two criminals. After this, when the police started investigating their activities, a shocking fact came to light.
The mobile phones of these two criminals were switched off since the evening of January 5. Not only this, the last location of the mobile phones of the three other suspects for whom the search was already going on was traced to Nakaha, from where their phones were also switched off. The switching off of the mobile, the location being found in the same area and the subsequent robbery, all these further strengthened the suspicion of the police.

After this, the police intensified the search for all of them. Diana, who was caught in the encounter on Saturday, told that their target was not the retired accountant, but cement businessman Rajesh Singh of Rajahi Maurya Tola. Diana told the police that about a week ago she had seen Rajesh Singh carrying a wad of notes. Then he realized that there would be a good amount of cash and valuables in the cement merchant's house.
After this, two days ago Diana and her companions did recce of the area. All roads, structure of houses and commuting options were observed. The plan was to reach the cement merchant's house in the evening, enter inside on the pretext of money and carry out the robbery.
The police are now connecting the links of this entire network and are also investigating whether any other kind of help or contact was received while inside the jail. Officials claim that after the arrest of the remaining absconding accused, the entire layers of this jail connection conspiracy will be revealed.
