Saurabh Pandey, East Delhi. Due to government negligence in Nandnagari area, food of thousands of people rotted in a closed ration shop. The ration which three thousand people could eat for about a month is now infested with insects.
The responsible department turned a blind eye
Due to irregularities in the government ration quota, the supply department sealed the shop but 15 thousand kg of grains kept rotting inside. Now the conditions inside the shop are such that the sacks have rotted and the mites and insects growing in them are now entering the nearby houses. Local people are troubled by the smell and insects, but the responsible department is turning a blind eye.
Many complaints have been given to the supply department but no action has been taken. In fact, on November 20, when the supply department team came to inspect this shop located in Nand Nagar C-2 block, instead of the 42.62 tonnes of wheat recorded in the records, only 12.65 tonnes were found. At the same time, only 3.35 tonnes of rice was found instead of 28.29 tonnes and the 0.157 tonnes of sugar recorded in the records was not found at all.
After this the team sealed this shop and also canceled it. Since then, about 12 thousand kilos of wheat and three thousand kilos of rice present here are rotting in the shop itself. The supply department has become so careless that not only thousands of kilos of food grains are being wasted but people are also falling prey to diseases caused by insects.
Took away the money and left the grains behind
Local people alleged that with the connivance of the supply department officials, the shop operator came two days after the sealing and broke the seal and took out his food and money inside. Sudesh, the owner of the house below which this shop is located, told that he had told him to take out the grains also but he took out the money and locked it and left.
While sealing the shop, the supply department also did not think that with the amount of food grains locked in the shop, about three thousand people could feed for a month. The supply department provides five kilos of grain to a person per month. In such a situation, 15 thousand kg of food grains could be used by three thousand people for a month.
Despite many complaints no one came
Local residents said that the grains started rotting just a few days after sealing. After this he complained about the matter to the officials of the supply department. When no action was taken, he also complained to the local MLA and the office of the Assistant Commissioner of the Supply Department. There was an assurance from there that the grains would be removed within a week but no action was taken.
The shop stinks. Insects are entering the house, children are falling ill. The officials are turning a blind eye, strict action should be taken against those who commit such negligence in the country's capital. - Shyam Sundar has been complaining for a month, but there is no hearing. It seems the officials are not concerned about people's health.
Government food grains are rotting and the poor have to stand in queues for ration. This is plain negligence. Action should be taken against the concerned officials.
If the grains had been removed in time, this situation would not have happened. In many areas of the country, people are forced to sleep hungry and thousands of kilos of food grains are rotting here.
If the quota shop is cancelled, the ration kept in it is immediately shifted to another shop. Will get the matter investigated. If negligence is revealed then action will be taken against those responsible.
