Speaker Harvinder Kalyan strict on illegal colonies in Haryana
Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. While the BJP government of Haryana is bringing people out of their hellish life by regularizing illegal colonies, property dealers, politicians, colonizers and builders together are continuously cutting down illegal colonies.
Due to this, not only the number of illegal colonies is continuously increasing instead of decreasing, but people are also waiting for the colonies to be regularized by investing their hard-earned money with these colonizers.
Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan has expressed deep concern over the trend of illegal colonies being continuously cut down. Also, indications have been given to take strictest action against such illegal colonizers. He has suggested to the government that not only the process of regularizing illegal colonies in the entire state should be tightened, but also illegal colonies springing up without licenses should be strictly banned.
Harvinder Kalyan has said that the government has regularized the illegal colonies by making a law, but it does not mean at all that along with the regularization of the colonies, new illegal colonies should continue to be developed. He has requested the state government not to show any leniency in regularizing the new illegal colonies being created, so that the common people can avoid getting their money stuck.
Kalyan had recently expressed the same opinion in the enlightened conference organized in Gharaunda. Later, while talking to the media in Chandigarh, he said that the job of the government is to provide relief to the people. Under him, first former Chief Minister Manohar Lal and then Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini regularized about 2300 illegal colonies of the state by making a law which met the norms, but then there was such a flood that illegal colonies started being cut continuously just in the hope that sooner or later the government will regularize them.
After a survey in Haryana, 6904 illegal colonies were identified, but out of them, 3937 illegal colonies built on 26 thousand 650 acres of land were removed. The state government has lodged an FIR against about 1900 property dealers for misleading people and embezzling their money by setting up illegal colonies, while so far 2300 illegal colonies have been regularized in 11 years.
Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan says that illegal colonies built without a license become a cause of big trouble, because while a few people earn profits by building a colony, the house builders neither get basic facilities nor are they able to get any guarantee of the maintenance of their houses. There is always a danger of demolition of such houses.
In the past years, the BJP government has worked to regularize many years old colonies by changing the law. After regularizing the colonies, basic facilities were provided to the people there, whereas that work was the responsibility of the colony cutters, which they did not do.
The Assembly Speaker has run an awareness campaign against such illegal colonies in the entire state and has inspired people to become self-aware, so that they do not fall into the clutches of illegal businessmen in their greed for small and cheap land.
He said that beautification and cleanliness of cities is also very important, which is not possible without public participation. We will have to brainstorm to make cities beautiful and clean. Committees will have to be formed in every ward to monitor the ongoing development works. Every penny of the government should be put to good use.
