Jagran correspondent, Patna. MDA program will be organized in 395 blocks of 34 districts of Bihar from 10th February to 27th February 2026. During this period, a target has been set to administer anti-filarial medicines to approximately 11 crore beneficiaries.
In filariasis affected areas, trained health workers will administer medicines to the beneficiaries in front of them, so that the chain of infection can be broken.
Giving information in this regard, Additional Director and State Filariasis Program Officer Dr. Shyama Rai said that the state government is continuously taking effective steps to keep people safe from NTD.
He said that filariasis or elephantiasis is a serious disease, which is spread by the bite of infected mosquitoes. 72 countries of the world are affected by filariasis, which includes India. Nearly 40 percent of the total patients suffering from filariasis globally are in India.

Dr. Rai said that as part of a well-planned strategy to eradicate NTDs like filariasis in the state, the Mass Drug Administration program is being conducted.
Dr. Rajesh Pandey, State NTD Coordinator of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the state, said that according to WHO, Neglected Tropical Diseases affect more than one billion people of the world living in tropical and sub-tropical regions.
These diseases cause serious harm physically, socially and economically, especially to the poor and vulnerable sections. He said that to achieve the goal of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), it is necessary to pay special attention to the control and elimination of NTDs.
Many deaths occurred due to not getting timely treatment
NTDs include about 21 diseases including lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis), visceral leishmaniasis (kala-azar), leprosy, dengue, chikungunya, snakebite, rabies.
Due to these diseases, many such deaths have occurred till now, which could have been prevented in time. People affected by NTDs suffer physical pain, disfigurement, disability and social marginalization, severely affecting their livelihoods and quality of life.
