Jagran correspondent, Hisar. 16 December 2025 has been recorded in the administrative history of Haryana as the day when Hansi again got the status of district after 193 years. Hansi, which had lost the title of district in 1832, has now once again emerged as an independent administrative unit.

This is not just an announcement of becoming a district, but a moment of history, struggle and cultural restoration. With the announcement of the state government, the dream that had been growing in Hansi for years came true. This dream was not created in the corridors of power alone, but in the streets, dharnas, fasts and mass movements. This journey of becoming Hansi district starts from the present and goes deep into the past, from where its historical importance becomes even more clear.

193 years of waiting, 13 years of struggle

The idea of making Hansi a district was awakened 13 years ago. Retired army man Ramnivas army man woke up. The protest that started from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in 2013 continued for 94 days. After this, this demand was raised through every democratic way - cycle journey, walking journey, signature campaign and fast unto death.

A memorandum with more than 50 thousand signatures was submitted to the then Chief Minister. In the year 2018-19, the fast unto death and 103 days continuous strike near the Mini Secretariat was the culmination of this movement. This struggle was not just an administrative demand, but a public resolve to re-establish the historical identity of Hansi.

Hansi is also strong from economic point of view

Hansi was once a major center of cotton industry. At one time more than 50 cottonseed factories were active. Even today the shoe industry here is famous throughout the country. Rice is supplied to foreign countries from rice mills. Formation of a district will give a new dimension to trade, investment and employment.

Prithviraj Chauhan's Fort - 'Threshold of Hindustan'

Hansi Fort was very important from strategic point of view in the 12th century during the time of Prithviraj Chauhan (reign: approximately 1178–1192 AD). It was called the 'Threshold of Hindustan' because it was the first strong fort to stop the attacks coming from the north-west. During that period, Hansi was a major center of sword manufacturing and military training. Five entrance gates of the fort were built, out of which the Badsi Gate still exists as a historical heritage.

Char Qutb Dargah – center of Sufi tradition (13th–14th century)

The Char Qutub Dargah of Hansi is an invaluable heritage of the Sufi tradition, which began in the 13th century. The first Qutb Sheikh was Qutb Jalaluddin (death: 1236 AD). After this, Hazrat Qutub Burhanuddin, Khwaja Qutubuddin Munawwar and the fourth Qutub Hazrat Qutub Nooruddin (1325–1397 AD) were the main pillars of this tradition. Mughal emperor Humayun donated 5210 bighas of land to the Dargah in the 16th century. This place is a living example of communal harmony and cultural coordination.

Rakhigarhi- Great city of Indus Valley Civilization (2600–1900 BC)

Rakhigarhi is a world-class archaeological site in the Hansi region, which is considered to be a major center of the Indus Valley Civilization (2600–1900 BC). This site was situated in the area of Saraswati and Drishdwati river system. Initial excavations took place in 1963, while extensive excavations were carried out during 1997–1999 under the leadership of Amarendra Nath. After Dholavira, it is considered the second largest Harappan city of the Indian subcontinent. The process of establishing a museum here is an important step towards giving global recognition to this heritage.

Lal Sadak – Witness to the Revolution of 1857

Hansi's Lal Sadak is an indelible memory of the first freedom struggle of 1857. The revolutionaries involved in the rebellion against the British rule were publicly subjected to harsh repression by the British on this route. The incidents of making the rebels lie on the road and running road rollers gave this route the identity of 'Red Road'. Which testifies to atrocities.

Amti Talab- Atmasmana Validin

According to historians, in 1038 AD, Hansi was ruled by King Shripal. During the Turkish invasion, the king's daughter Amriti sacrificed her life by jumping into the pond to protect her self-respect. In his memory it was called 'Amriti Talab', which later became famous as 'Aamti Talab'. It depicts the saga of female sacrifice in medieval India. It holds a special place in the folk memory of Hansi.

What will change in Hansi now?

With the formation of a district, the pace of development of Hansi will reach a new level. Now separate district budget, Deputy Commissioner office, District and Sessions Court, District Police Administration and other departmental structures will be established in Hansi itself. People will not have to go to Hisar for administrative and judicial work. This will save time, resources and financial burden.

Possible changes after formation of Hansi district: Administrative work will now be done at the local level.
