His body was hanged and set on fire

Digital Desk, New Delhi. No direct evidence has been found of making any derogatory remarks hurting religious sentiments against Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth who was killed by a mob in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. An official gave this information to the local media. Das was beaten to death by a mob on the night of December 18, allegedly on blasphemy charges, and then his body was hanged and set on fire.

Mohammad Samsuzzaman, company commander of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-14 in Mymensingh, told Bangladesh's leading newspaper The Daily Star that 'no evidence has been found to show that the deceased had written anything on the internet media that could hurt religious sentiments.' He also noted that neither the local people nor any workers at the textile factory where Das worked pointed out such activity.

Now everyone is saying that they personally did not hear any such thing from Das. Coalition of Hindus of North America, a leading global advocacy organization, has expressed deep concern over the silence of the international media and communities regarding the violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh following the brutal murder of Das. Condemning this barbaric incident, the organization said that Bangladesh is moving towards barbarity, with Hindus being the most affected.

Bangabandhu hostel named 'Osman Hadi'

According to Pretr, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hostel of Dhaka University has been renamed after Sharif Osman Hadi. Local media informed about this change on Sunday. Hadi was a prominent youth leader who took part in the July uprising that toppled Sheikh Hasina's government in Bangladesh last year. Hadi died on Thursday, six days after being shot in the head in the capital.

According to the newspaper 'Dhaka Tribune', 'Hal Union', an organization of students living in the hostel, on Saturday removed the name plate at the main gate and replaced it with a new name plate 'Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi Hall'. He was shot in the head by masked gunmen during an election campaign in Dhaka's Bijaynagar area on 12 December. He died on Thursday during treatment in Singapore.

His death was followed by attacks and vandalism across Bangladesh. Apart from this, many students had painted the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the main building of the hostel. Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) cultural affairs secretary Musaddiq Ibn Ali Mohammad said the work of removing the nameplate started at 9.30 pm on Saturday night. Vice President of 'Hall Council' Muslimur Rahman said that this decision was taken on the demand of students.
