Cremation of newborn by making a wooden pyre on the roadside (video grab)

Digital Desk, Bhopal. An incident that shocks humanity has come to light in Sehore district adjacent to the capital Bhopal. Accusing the district hospital of negligence, a father performed the last rites of his newborn daughter by building a wooden pyre on the roadside. The matter came into limelight after the video of this incident which took place on Sehore-Bherunda road went viral on social media on Friday.

According to the information, Mamta's wife Santosh Jat was admitted to Sehore District Hospital at 4.30 pm on December 30. At 2.22 am on January 2, 2026, she gave birth to a pre-mature baby girl through normal delivery. The weight of the newborn was only 900 grams, due to which his condition remained critical since birth.

After delivery, the girl was admitted to the SNCU (Special Newborn Care Unit) of the district hospital. The newborn died during treatment at around 3.30 pm on Monday afternoon. After this the hospital management called the family members to collect the dead body. Meanwhile, the girl's father Santosh Jat started protesting in the hospital premises alleging medical negligence.

The family members allege that the doctor was not present at the time of delivery and the behavior of the doctor and staff posted at SNCU was insensitive. Considering the matter as serious, the hospital management has issued a show cause notice to the concerned doctors and staff.

At the same time, the hospital administration says that the family members did not inform the civil surgeon, RMO or any senior officer before the demonstration. The female doctor has clarified in her statement that she had examined the woman and the delivery was conducted in the labor room by a trained nursing officer.

Controversy increased after the video went viral

When Santosh Jat was contacted after the viral video surfaced, he told that he had been removed from the ongoing dharna in front of the district hospital. After this, he performed the last rites of his newborn daughter near the place where 'Krishi' was written on the road, on the Sehore-Bherunda-Ichhawar road.

This incident is raising serious questions on the sensitivity of the health system and administration. The district administration has indicated to investigate the entire matter.
