State Bureau, Shimla. After the closure of Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) in Himachal Pradesh, a new stir has started in the politics of the state. The budget session of the Assembly starting from February 16 may prove to be a testing moment for the government. On the one hand, it has to balance the financial challenges, while on the other hand, the opposition will also have to respond. In the first phase, the assembly session will start from 16th February and will continue till 18th February. After that the budget will be presented in the second phase of the session. This session will not be just a formality of presenting the budget, but will decide both the financial direction and political edge of the state.

The government claims that due to the closure of RDG, the state is incurring a loss of about Rs 10 thousand crores every year. Being a special category hill state, the dependence on central assistance is high. In such a situation, this decision is having a direct impact on development plans and financial balance.
RDG issue will also be raised in the all-party meeting
Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania has called an all-party meeting regarding the conduct of the session. There also the issue of RDG will be raised prominently. Amid efforts to ensure smooth functioning of the House, this issue may become a cause for heated debate.
