Mill workers beating farmers with sticks

Samvad Sutra, Jagran, Barkheda. The tractor trolley of a farmer who had come to sell sugarcane at Noble Sugar Mill was rejected after being kept in the queue for several hours. The incident took place on Saturday night around 11 pm. When sugarcane farmer Pradeep and his two colleagues protested against this, the guards of the sugar mill beat them severely with sticks and boots.

The farmers who ran to escape were chased and beaten. After this, they took hostages inside the sugar mill and called the police. In this case, the police have issued challan to two farmers and two guards for disturbing the peace. Farmer Pradeep Kumar, resident of Masit village in the area, grows sugarcane.

He had reached Noble Sugar Mill on Saturday to sell his sugarcane. After waiting in line for several hours for the tractor trolley, when the time came to weigh their sugarcane, it was around 11 o'clock in the night. At the sugar mill gate, the variety checker declared the sugarcane as reject and asked him to take it back in the trolley, which was opposed by the farmer and his two companions.

This worsened the situation and an argument broke out. All the guards gathered on the spot and started beating the farmer and his companions with kicks, punches and sticks. When the farmers, scared of being beaten, ran to escape, they caught hold of them and dragged them inside the mill. After this, the mill administration called the police by giving information on dial 112.

After investigating the matter, the police challaned two guards of Punobal Sugar Mill, Vedprakash and Lokesh, as well as two farmers Mukesh and Durvesh resident Masit for disturbing peace. Regarding this, police station in-charge Pramen Kumar said that there was a fight between both the parties, in which both the parties were challaned for disturbing the peace.

Meanwhile, Nobel Sugar Factory's cane manager Shiv Tirath Upadhyay says that there was mixed variety sugarcane in the farmer's trolley and the factory guard refused to take it. Sugarcane farmer Pradeep and his two other companions were under the influence of alcohol and they became intent on fighting. The fight is outside the factory gate. Police have issued challan to both parties for disturbing peace. The factory management is also investigating the incident.
