Allegations and counter-allegations between voter list supervisor Murugan and Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra (file photo)
State Bureau, Jagran, Kolkata. A war of words broke out between Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and voter list observer C S Murugan over allegations related to the role of 'micro-observer' in the Special Revision (SIR) process of voter lists.
The controversy started on February 18 when Moitra said in a post on 'X' that officials were going beyond their jurisdiction. He wrote, Please control your voter list observer, 2007 batch IAS officer and Tea Board Vice President C Murugan, who is giving wrong instructions to micro observers on a secret WhatsApp group in violation of Supreme Court orders.
TMC MP shared the picture
The Trinamool MP also shared a picture of a film character and wrote the caption 'Quick Gun Murugan'. Murugan, on the other hand, in a reply post on X on Thursday said, I do not have as many guns as shown in the picture.
However, during my four-and-a-half years of training in the police service in Tamil Nadu, I was trained in handling a variety of firearms and used them legally and effectively. This post of Murugan is being considered as a reply to Moitra's post, in which he did not take anyone's name.
There was no immediate reaction from Moitra on this post of Murugan. Earlier, Trinamool Congress national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee had claimed that Murugan was giving instructions to 'micro-observers' through WhatsApp to remove the names of voters.
Banerjee had also shared screenshots of such alleged messages on her 'X' handle. Banerjee had alleged that Election Commission officials were using micro-observers beyond their assigned role to help remove names of people from voter lists, in alleged violation of Supreme Court directions.
Even more disturbing, he had said, were authentic reports that Special Observer C Murugan was giving instructions regarding acceptability of birth certificates directly to Micro Observers in a WhatsApp group, so as to increase the number of names deleted.
