During a marriage ceremony in Jalalabad area, a girl arrived and posing as her alleged lover, claimed to have had a court marriage with the young man four years ago and told that she lives in a live-in relationship with him. The girl said that the right to the garland is mine as she has had a court marriage with me.

Due to this dispute, the relatives of the bride's side also got angry and took the entire wedding procession hostage. The panchayat between the two sides continued till late night. Panchayat was held again on Sunday and people from the bride's side demanded Rs 14 lakh for the wedding expenses. Later a settlement was reached for Rs 13 lakh. If the money is not given then the groom will deed the land.

The wedding procession had reached another nearby village on Saturday from a village in the Jalalabad police post area. After the grand procession and welcome rituals were completed, when the bride and groom reached the stage for the garland, a girl from a village in Saharanpur district came there.

The girl stopped the groom mid-stage and claimed that she had had a court marriage with the young man several months ago. The girl bluntly said that this marriage could not take place and the garland should be put around her neck. This sudden dispute created chaos at the venue.

As soon as the truth came out, people from the bride's side got angry. Accusing them of fraud, they took the groom, his father and people in the wedding procession hostage. Meanwhile, some wedding guests left the spot. The Panchayat round continued till late Saturday evening to reach an agreement between the two parties.

The bride's side flatly refused the marriage, demanding the full amount spent on wedding preparations and other arrangements. According to sources, in the panchayat that lasted till late night, when the groom's side was unable to give the cash immediately, it is said that to cover the expenses, an agreement was reached on the condition of deed of agricultural land in favor of the bride's side.

The girl from Saharanpur remained firm on her claim till the end. However, no information was given to the police by any party during the entire incident.
