Lifestyle Desk, New Delhi. According to a shocking report from Oxford, 40% of students are lagging behind in vocabulary development. The digital world is taking away the study time of children, but there is no need to panic because some very unique and interesting experiments are being done all over the world to deal with this problem.

Studying becomes easier with food

Suzy Dent has launched a brilliant campaign to rekindle a love of words in children. Now the children's 'lunch box' is becoming their classroom. In collaboration with a food brand, cards with funny words are being placed in children's tiffins.

New words, their simple meanings and interesting stories related to them are written on these cards. With this, studies become not a burden but a game. This method not only increases children's vocabulary but also promotes conversation between parents and children at the dining table.

Have you ever seen a library where there were no books on the shelves? Yes, this is the concept of 'Human Library'. Here children talk to people instead of books. Through conversation they learn the real meaning of words, their correct context and usage. This method makes the learning process lively. This unique initiative, which started in Denmark in 2000, is today improving the language of children in more than 85 countries of the world.

Learning from shop boards and traffic signals

Studying should not be limited to just the classroom. In countries like America, Britain and Canada, children are being taught by taking them out of the class. Children are learning new words by reading shop boards and traffic signs around them. This makes them understand that words are not just in books but in everything around us and it connects them to the outside world.

Little podcasters and robotic friends

Nowadays, children in schools are being encouraged to create their own 'podcasts'. By speaking on small topics, they develop the art of choosing words correctly and organizing thoughts.

Apart from this, technology is also playing a big role. Storytelling robots are now children's new friends. These robots, understanding the language ability of the child, narrate stories of the same level and also ask questions in between. This is a great example of 'personal learning'. These robotic friends are being used in many countries including India, America, Japan, China and Finland.

Screen time may have curtailed children's reading habit, but from words hidden in tiffins to robotic stories, these new experiments have brought a new ray of hope. All that is needed is to adopt these methods and bring children back into the magical world of words.
