Jagran correspondent, East Delhi. A 76-year-old man died in a tragic road accident on Friday morning in East Delhi's Ghazipur area. After the accident, the police have taken the driver of the Scorpio car into custody. The incident took place near the petrol pump located on the service road of NH-24.
According to the police, Ghazipur police station received information about the road accident at around 6 in the morning. As soon as the information was received, the police team reached the spot. At the spot, a black Scorpio car was found parked on the footpath in an accident condition. At the same time, an elderly person was found lying on the footpath in a critical condition, who was declared dead by the doctors after being taken to the hospital.
The deceased were residents of West Bengal
The deceased has been identified as Paik Karmai (76 years). He was originally a resident of West Bengal and was currently living in Ghazipur village. He was working at Ghazipur flower market and was going to work with two of his colleagues at the time of the incident.
People in the car fled from the spot
At the same time, preliminary investigation has revealed that the Scorpio slipped after hitting the divider between the main road and the service road and went out of control on the footpath, due to which the elderly people walking on foot got hit by it. The driver of the vehicle, Shrey Kumar (26 years), resident of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody on the spot, while the other occupants of the vehicle fled from the spot.
On information, the forensic team inspected the spot and collected evidence. The body of the deceased has been sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for postmortem.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections and all aspects of the accident are being investigated along with the search for the absconding persons.
