Digital Desk, New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has described the interim trade agreement between India and America as a step to give new impetus to the country's fast-paced growth engine.

On social media platform 'X', he said that this agreement is important towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Developed India' and will provide huge benefits to 'Make in India', farmers, entrepreneurs, MSMEs, startup innovators and fishermen, and will also increase employment opportunities for youth and women.

The two countries on Saturday announced the finalization of the framework for the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement (BTA). According to the joint statement, the initiative is a continuation of the comprehensive negotiations that began in February 2025.

Under the agreement, the US will reduce import duties on Indian goods from 50 percent to 18 percent, while India will eliminate or reduce tariffs on American industrial products and many food-agriculture items. The first part of the agreement is expected to be signed by mid-March.
