Digital Desk, New Delhi. Former ISRO chief A S Kiran Kumar on Wednesday said India is planning to land its astronauts on the Moon by 2040. Kumar is currently the Chairman of the Management Council of the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL).

He was addressing the 5th Astronomical Society of India (ASI) symposium. “There are a lot of missions that are going to go into space activities between now and 2040,” he said.
So, 2040 is a plan where we want to land Indians on the moon and bring them back safely. India is also working towards building a space station by 2040.
'He said, there will be a Chandrayaan follow-up mission in the near future and work is going on with Japan for the lander and rover. “We should try to find some specific information in the south polar region (of the moon),” he said. This will be the beginning of many activities beyond that.

India as a country is committed to making space observations and then understanding the universe. वहीं, भारतीय खगोल भौतिकी संस्थान की निदेशक प्रोफेसर अन्नपूर्णी सुब्रमण्यम ने कहा कि भारत में अंतरिक्ष संस्थानों में महिलाओं की भागीदारी बढ़ रही है, लेकिन उन्हें नेतृत्व की भूमिका निभाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया जाना चाहिए। Women need more institutional and family support.
