An Indian student studying in Dhaka told 'Al Jazeera' that he had taken admission in East West Medical College, Dhaka in April 2024, but the situation has completely changed after the movement against Sheikh Hasina in July 2024. The college administration has advised Indian students to stay inside the campus. Now I feel scared even going out of the hostel.
Killings of Hindus increased concern
The killing of 8 Hindus in the last 23 days has increased the concern and fear of Indian students. He says that earlier Dhaka felt like home but now it has become like a prison.
The intern of Dhaka National Medical College said that we are living under the shadow of fear every day. Now we do not go to markets or crowded places. We have to be cautious while talking even in the hospital.
Students' concern increased over political violence
Elections are scheduled in Bangladesh on February 12. As the election date approaches, political violence and anti-India rhetoric has intensified in the country. The situation has worsened since the assassination of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi in December.
Hindu teacher attacked with hammer in Madaripur
Attacks on Hindus continue in Bangladesh. In Madaripur, a Hindu teacher was attacked with a hammer by two masked youths while entering the school, in which the teacher was badly injured. The incidents of breaking of idols in temples at different places have made the atmosphere even more tense.
