Thakur DP Arya, Hapur. The American lab which separates the serum of male and female cattle in the state was closed recently due to the tender being over. The government did not renew its tender because the standards of the complex process were not met.

In such a situation, American Lab ABC has started packing its bags. Since then the process of sorting serum had stopped. At the same time, technology for separating the serum of heifers and calves has been developed in the country.

Now NDDB (National Dairy Development Board) will set up its own lab in Babugarh, Hapur with the country's first indigenous technology. With this, cattle farmers of Uttar Pradesh will start getting calf serum again.

Indigenous technology will cost four times less

The expense of separating serum through indigenous technology will also be four times less. This will reduce the government's expenditure on grants. Its construction work will start from March.

Animal farmers rear cows for milk, but bulls have become useless nowadays. Oxen are not used for plowing or carting. In such a situation, cattle herders leave the male cattle helpless.

American company's tender comes into controversy

Five years ago, the government had set up a lab for separating male and female semen at the ultra-frozen semen production center in Babugarh with the help of America. This lab was being operated by the American company ABS- Animal Breeding Service.

This lab was producing five lakh serum units of calf every year. Recently its tender got stuck in controversies. Actually, it was necessary for three companies to participate in the tender process.

Whereas this technology was done only by American companies ABS and ST Genetics. The government did not renew the tender for this lab due to the third company not coming forward. The American company has collected its lab equipment.

Now there will be indigenous technology and cheaper production

Till now only America had the technology to sort male-female serum. The American lab was charging Rs 760 from the government for one dose of serum. However, it was being given to cattle herders only for Rs 100.

The remaining amount was subsidized by the government. Now the Indian technology for sorting male-female serum is ready. After completing all the tests, the government has said goodbye to American technology.

NDDB has issued tenders to prepare labs based on its technology. Now a lab with Indian technology will be established in Babugarh in March.

This time the setup will be four times bigger

Till now, five lakh doses were being prepared from a lab with American technology. Now the lab with Indian technology will prepare 20 lakh serum doses every year. The government's expenditure on this will also be only Rs 260.

The construction of NDDB's lab will start from March. It will start production in April. Recently, senior IAS and Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry Mukesh Meshram had inspected the ultra-frozen semen refrigeration centre. Then he informed about the distribution of serum prepared with Indian technology very soon.

There were problems in the tender process of the American lab. At the same time, their technology was becoming very expensive. In such a situation, the government has not renewed the tender. ABS company has packed its stuff.

The establishment of the dairy department of animal husbandry's own lab will start from March. Sorting the serum using Indian technology will be cheaper and it will be our indigenous technology.

- Dr. Sanjeev Kumar- Joint Director-Semen Freezing Centre. NDDB is indigenous technology. The company's tender for this will be finalized in two-four days. The company will complete its set up in March. This will be the only lab in the state. From here, serum doses will be supplied to the entire state.
