Digital Desk, Srinagar. Jammu and Kashmir Transport Welfare Association on Tuesday announced a one-day token strike on December 15 over their "long pending" demands. He said that no passenger vehicles will hit the roads during the strike. After the strike the association will give an ultimatum of seven days to the government. If their demands are not met, a "big decision" will be taken.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, General Secretary of the association Sheikh Mohammad Yusuf said that the transporters of both Jammu and Kashmir divisions have unanimously decided to go on strike. This strike is being held as a protest and there will be traffic jam in both the divisions.
He warned that if even after this the government shows neglect in fulfilling their demands, then a decision will be taken to intensify the movement. Yusuf said that despite repeated empty assurances, the government has failed to resolve their important issues. This is why the transport sector is "on the verge of collapse."
He alleged that unregulated running of e-buses in the city, huge increase in fitness and green tax and arbitrary e-challan are serious issues which have troubled the transporters. These problems have been repeatedly put before the government but till now no effective steps have been taken to solve them.
