MLAs are seen dancing in the video album.
Digital Desk, Ranchi. A new controversy has arisen in the politics of Jharkhand, where Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Dashrath Gagrai has surprised everyone by acting in a local 'item song'.
In this video going viral on social media, the MLA is seen driving a jeep in a stylish style and dancing, but the Bharatiya Janata Party has expressed strong objection calling it 'indecent' and 'obscene'.
This video, shared on Facebook and X, has garnered millions of views, and has become a topic of discussion in political circles.
The video, which is a Ho Bhasha/Jharkhandi fusion song titled 'Nasha Chadhao Jaan' (or similar lyrics like 'Nasha Chadhao Yaar'), features Dashrath Gagrai in the lead role.
Both protest and support on social media
The song begins with a party scene in the dark of night, with the MLA wearing sunglasses driving a modified Mahindra jeep through the crowd.
People are seen clapping, flashing cameras and celebrating. The number plate of the jeep is PB 03 BA 9923, and the scene looks like a Punjabi-Jharkhandi fusion.
Later in the song, a female dancer (whose name is said to be Sania Prasad or Nisha Gagrai) is seen dancing passionately in a red lehenga amidst balls of fire.
The MLA also joins in with the dance moves and the entire video is full of energetic beats. The names of producer Rangeelal Gagrai and director Appa Prasad are in the credits. The video has been uploaded on a YouTube channel like 'Rahul Gagrai Surasangom'.
This video shared on Facebook from 'Followup Jharkhand' page has received lakhs of views and thousands of reactions. While sharing it on X, journalist Akhilesh Singh wrote, "Wow MLA! Why should Manoj Tiwari and Ravi Kishan take all the fun?
Tell me how you liked the new avatar of the MLA. Reactions to the post have been mixed - some laughingly commented, while others said "Everyone wins elections only for looting and adultery!" One wrote, "Still won't be able to compete with this song 'Tohar Lehenga Utha Deb Remote Se'."
BGP's reaction was sharp - this is indecent
Here BJP has given a sharp reaction on this. Party's state spokesperson Pratul Shahdev said that it seems as if the entire system in Jharkhand is running 'intoxicated' - one had heard the intoxication of land loot, coal loot, crime, now one has also become intoxicated with acting on obscene item songs.
"This is against the dignity of the MLA and is misleading to the public," the BJP said in the statement. JMM has defended it by calling it a personal matter, but the official statement has not come yet.
MLAs have appeared in the album before too
This is not the first case. Earlier, Congress' Barkagaon MLA Amba Prasad, while being an MLA, had released her debut music video 'Jiya Harshaye' on the occasion of Sarhul Festival.
This is a Nagpuri Sarhul song, in which Amba herself was seen singing, dancing and choreographing. The video was launched at a press conference in Ranchi and has grabbed more headlines as it came just ahead of the ED's questioning.
This hobby of Amba is said to be related to cultural promotion, and many such clips of her are viral on YouTube.
Participation of leaders in traditional dance and music
There are less cases of such other prominent MLAs in Jharkhand, but many politicians take part in traditional songs and dances in local festivals.
Dashrath Gagrai is a three-time MLA from Kharsawan and has been in controversies in the past too – like contesting elections with fake identity and allegations of nepotism.
But this new 'Bollywood-style' avatar is trending on social media and is raising questions about whether the boundaries of politics and entertainment are blurring?
