Jagran correspondent, Chaibasa. A major success has been achieved in the ongoing encounter between security forces and Maoists in Saranda forest of West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. In this operation, the security forces killed notorious Maoist leader Anal, carrying a reward of Rs 1 crore. Anal was a Central Committee Member (CCM) of the CPI (Maoist) organization and was included in the most wanted list of the security forces for a long time. The incident is being reported from Chhotanagara police station area. An intensive search operation is being conducted in the area by the security forces. After the encounter, high alert has been declared in the entire area and additional forces have been sent to the spot. Such a large number of Maoists had never been killed simultaneously in Jharkhand. This is a big success of the police.
Anal squad had a direct encounter with Cobra-209 battalion. 16 Maoists have been killed in this. A decisive battle was going on with the Maoists in Saranda. After this operation, there are very few Maoists of big stature left in Jharkhand.

Cases of many serious crimes like murder, blast were registered.
Anal alias Tufan, alias Patiram Manjhi, alias Patiram Marandi, alias Ramesh, father of Toto Marandi alias Taru Manjhi, resident of village Jharhabale, police station Peertand, district Giridih, was active in the forests of Saranda and Giridih for a long time. Cases of many serious crimes like murder, blast, weapons and robbery were registered against him.
Anal was not only involved in Maoist activities but also managed to escape from police and CRPF operations several times. Due to his tactics and activism, he was considered extremely dangerous for the state security agencies. According to sources, 16 Maoists are reported to have been killed so far in this fierce encounter. However, official confirmation from the security forces is awaited. Search operations are still underway in the area and security forces have cordoned off the entire area. According to local people and officials, Maoist activities in the Saranda forest have been a matter of concern for a long time. After Anal's killing, security forces have increased vigilance in the area and have intensified patrolling and search operations in the surrounding villages.
This encounter is being considered a major success for the security forces, as Anal was most wanted for a long time and many other Maoists in his network are said to be still active. So far 16 have been confirmed dead. Information about the killed Maoists is yet to come. This has become the biggest operation so far in Jharkhand. Such numbers of Maoists had never been killed in this state.
