Jagran correspondent, Bathinda. The district court has sent co-accused Ranjit Singh to judicial custody in the murder case of digital content creator Kanchan Kumari alias Kamal Kaur Bhabhi. According to the police, a total of five people were involved in this murder, out of which four have been identified so far, while the identity of the fifth accused still remains a mystery. Ranjit Singh was arrested from Jhabal village in Tarn Taran district on 6 February.
Earlier, the court had sent him on three-day police remand for questioning. DSP City-1 Sarabjit Singh said that many important information has been received from Ranjit, but the details cannot be shared as the investigation is still ongoing.
Whereas the body of 30-year-old social media influencer Kanchan Kumari was found on June 11 from her car in the parking lot of Aadesh Medical College and Hospital in Bhuchho, Bathinda. Investigation revealed that the murder incident took place on the night of 9-10 June.
According to police investigation, the mastermind of this case is Amritpal Singh Mehron, who is currently said to be hiding in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He was declared a proclaimed offender on 7 February. Police say that the fifth accused was probably in contact with the Mehrs.
Officials said that the mobile phones of the deceased have not been recovered yet. After declaring Mehar a proclaimed offender, the process of his extradition is expected to be expedited with the help of Interpol, which will enable the remaining aspects of the case to be revealed.
According to the police, after the murder, the accused had thrown the body in the parking lot of a private medical college. Police have described the case as a crime involving “unauthorized moral policing”.
