Nibha Rajak, Faridabad. 54 year old Kharet Devji Bhimji of Kutch is saving thousands of years old cultural heritage and artistic tradition. To learn this art of hands, he did not take any training, but since childhood, he learned the work of weaving handloom from his grandfather and father and became proficient.
On the basis of this art, Kharet Devji Bhimji received the biggest award for handicraft, Sant Kabir National Handloom Award in the year 2023. Before this, he had also been awarded the National Award in the year 2007. This award is given by the Government of India for significant contribution in preserving handloom heritage, promoting traditional skills and development of the sector.
Has given employment to 3500 people
Kharet Devji Bhimji told that weaving handloom is a traditional art in which cloth is made by weaving threads together with the help of a loom. It is operated by hand. Uses natural fibers like cotton, silk and wool to make cloth. Then a design is made on it with threads and glass. Kharet Devji Bhimji told that he has been coming to the fair for the last eight years. Get decent compensation and earn good income. He has given employment to 3500 people.
Has spread the magic of art in 20 countries
Kharet Devji Bhimji has spread the magic of his handloom in Russia, Japan, Netherlands, Europe and even Australia. Big orders are also received from abroad. Recently, handloom training was also given to the students of Cambria University (UK). He stayed there for three months. There is a huge demand for these clothes in foreign countries.
Shawls and sarees are available from Rs 1000 to Rs 16000
Kharet Devji Bhimji told that he has available sarees, suits, dupattas and shawls ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 16,000. He gets business worth Rs 3 to 5 lakh from the fair. This year too, good interest is being seen from people in the fair. They get more orders through the fair.
There was a crisis during the Corona period, then they recovered and today they are earning lakhs.
The time of Corona epidemic was very difficult for everyone. Kharet Devji Bhimji told that there was a huge loss during the Corona epidemic, sales were not even 30 percent. They were even withdrawing the salaries of the workers from the saved money. At that time I felt like leaving everything and doing some other business, I got support from my family. Son Madhav and Dheeraj started selling the product through online internet media and gradually became successful. Now it seems that if I had left the handloom, I might have lost my existence, this is our heritage.
