Entertainment Desk, New Delhi. Well-known playback singer Kumar Sanu has filed a defamation case against his ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya in the Bombay High Court. In this, he has demanded a compensation of Rs 30 lakh and removal of those interviews in which Rita has allegedly made derogatory statements about him. This case has come to light more than two decades after the couple's divorce. The divorce of both was finalized in the year 2001.

Ex-wife had made many allegations

The case will be heard on December 17. The petition, filed through advocate Sana Rais Khan, said that Bhattacharya gave interviews to entertainment platforms like Viral Bhayani and Film Window, in which she accused the singer of starving her during her pregnancy, keeping the kitchen closed, not providing milk and medical care and conducting court proceedings during the same. He also alleged that Sanu had many affairs due to which he did not pay attention to his family. This interview went viral on social media in September 2025.

breach of terms and conditions

His interview in September 2025 went viral on social media. The petition said that these comments violate the terms of the consent entered into during their divorce proceedings in the Bandra Family Court on February 9, 2001. According to Sanu, those terms included the condition that neither party would press charges against the other in the future. It has been argued in the petition that Bhattacharya's statements have damaged Kumar Sanu's reputation and caused mental agony.
