The injured accused has been identified as Nitish Kumar, resident of Chaurasi, Maner. Police are conducting raids in search of his two other associates.

City SP West Bhanu Pratap Singh said that the police had gone on his behest to recover the weapons used in the robbery attempt. Then he tried to escape by firing two rounds at the police team with a hidden weapon. In retaliation, the police fired one round, in which he was shot in the leg. Raids are being conducted in search of his other associates. His previous criminal history is also being investigated.

On the night of last January 9, Sanjay Kumar Soni, son of Vijay Kumar Soni, owner of Ganpati Jewelers located in Qazi locality of Maner police station area, was going to his home on bike via Kathara locality after closing the shop. Then three criminals riding a bike, who were already in ambush, stopped the businessman on the way by brandishing their pistols. Tried to snatch the chain from his neck and other items from his pocket.

When he protested, the criminals opened fire, one bullet hitting the businessman in his shoulder. City SP Western formed a special team after the incident. The special team included Danapur ASP, Maner police station incharge and other police officers. After investigation, the police identified the accused who was shot during the robbery attempt as Nitish Kumar. He was caught on Thursday. After interrogation, information was taken about the weapon used in the crime. He told about the weapon and the police was taken to Ratan Tola Ghat for recovery.

As soon as he got the opportunity, he fired at the police team with his hidden weapon. Police station incharge Rajneesh Kumar narrowly escaped the firing. The police retaliated in self-defense and opened fire. That bullet hit the accused's leg. City SP said that a case of escaping from police custody will also be registered against him. Police from Maner and nearby police stations along with City SP had reached the spot.
