Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley had approached the Delhi High Court seeking effective legal aid in connection with the arrest and detention of her retired soldier Vikrant Kumar Jaitley in the UAE. The High Court issued new instructions while hearing the petition on Tuesday (23 December).
The court asked the Indian Embassy to provide legal aid to Celina's brother who is detained abroad. The court has directed the Indian Embassy in UAE to provide the list of locally recognized lawyers for Celina Jaitley's brother. The next hearing of the case will be on January 22, 2026.
In fact, during the hearing, Celina had requested the court to arrange for the availability of a local lawyer or law firm for her brother, accepting which the court gave instructions to the Indian Embassy. Earlier, the court had directed the Central Government, through the Ministry of External Affairs, to facilitate talks between Celina Jaitley and her brother, who has been detained in the UAE for more than a year.
It is known that the court has sought a response from the Central Government and has said that the Indian Embassy should prepare a list of local lawyers for Vikrant, whose fees will be borne by his family. The court further said that if any lawyer or law firm is ready to waive professional fees, this should also be informed to Jaitley, so that he can take an informed decision.
Celina Jaitley has alleged in her petition that her brother has been kept in custody without any legal representation and adequate medical facilities. The Court has directed that a nodal officer be appointed who will provide regular updates to the family about Vikrant's condition and the legal process.
