Jagran correspondent, Ghaziabad. The court sentenced life imprisonment to husband Shamshad alias Raju, who was found guilty of murdering his wife Rani alias Sahana by slitting her throat with a paper cutter on the night of 28 November in Hindan Vihar of Nandgram police station area. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed on the culprit. Adopted 12-year-old daughter Afreen was an eyewitness. The daughter's testimony was considered important in getting the culprit punished. The accused had murdered his wife on suspicion of illicit relationship. This punishment was given by Additional Sessions Judge Arvind Mishra. Rani alias Sahana lived in a rented house in Yameen's house near Sultan Chowk in Hindon Vihar with her husband Shamshad alias Raju and adopted brother's daughter Afreen. Shamshad, originally a resident of village Dudhemai of Kayamganj tehsil of Farrukhabad, works as a palladari here.

What was the whole matter?

Daughter Afreen had told the police that late on the night of 28 November, her mother Rani alias Sahana had got up to use the toilet. During this time, Shamshad and Rani had a dispute regarding their stay in Delhi. During the dispute, Shamshad first kicked and punched his wife Rani.

After this he pressed both the hands of his wife with his feet. After this, he held his hair with one hand and killed him by slitting his throat with a paper cutter kept in the house. During this, Afreen tried to shout and go out. Shamshad had fled from the spot after threatening Afrin.

After the incident, Afreen reached the house of Rani's brother Guddu, who lives in the neighbourhood, late at night and informed about the incident. After this Guddu informed the police. Based on Guddu's complaint, the police had filed a report against Shamshad.

Police arrested Shamshad and sent him to jail. Since then he is in jail. The final hearing was held in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Arvind Mishra on Saturday. The court found Shamshad guilty on the basis of evidence and witnesses and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Both of them had got married for the second time only one and a half month ago.

Sahana's first marriage took place in Aligarh. Due to not having children, Rani adopted Guddu's daughter Afreen. The first husband divorced Rani about four years before the incident. After divorce from her husband, Rani was living at her brother's house in Hindon Vihar. Here he met Shamshad alias Raju.

Raju was also divorced from his first wife. Both of them had got married about one and a half months before the incident as per the wishes of the family. After marriage, both of them were living on rent in Yamin's house in Guddu's neighbourhood.
