Little monkey 'Punch' is on social media: When mother abandoned him, he hugged her with a toy (Photo - X)
Digital Desk, New Delhi. A very emotional news has come out from Japan's Ichikawa City Zoo. After being abandoned by his mother as soon as he was born in July 2025, the staff raised him and gave him an orange soft toy, which Punch accepted as his 'mother'. He carries it with him everywhere and its video has gone viral.
In the video viral on social media, Punch can be seen tightly clinging to the toy, carrying it around on his back and even sleeping with it. People are using the Japanese hashtag #HangInTherePunch (#GanbarePunchkun) to express their condolences to this little monkey.
Recognizing this emotional bond, IKEA Japan has donated several orangutan toys to the zoo so that Punch will always have his "toy mother" with him. Now Punch is slowly beginning to mix with his original monkey group and the other monkeys have started accepting him through grooming.
