Livestock Minister Inaugurated 18 Cow Protection Centres, 7400 Destitute Cows Will Get New Homes.

State Bureau, Lucknow. Livestock and Dairy Development Minister Dharampal Singh on Thursday virtually inaugurated 18 large cow protection centers built in 14 districts. In these, 7400 destitute cows will get shelter and protection.

In a program organized at the Animal Husbandry Directorate, the Minister gave instructions to complete the construction of the remaining 209 cow protection centers soon. Said that there should be no compromise on quality in the construction of centres. Cooperation of public representatives should also be taken at the local level in cow protection works.

The cow protection centers inaugurated on Thursday include three in Mirzapur, two each in Bareilly and Kanpur Dehat and one each in Azamgarh, Kasganj, Unnao, Bulandshahr, Shravasti, Ambedkar Nagar, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Firozabad, Rae Bareli and Badaun.

In the program, the Minister said that till now approval has been given for the construction of 630 large cow protection centres, out of which 421 centers have been constructed and operation of 410 has also started. Each center has the capacity to conserve 400 cows.

He said that at present 6503 temporary cow shelters, 421 large cow protection centers and 259 Kanji Houses are operating in the rural areas of the state and 314 Kanha cow shelters are operating in the urban areas. Of these, 12,38,447 destitute cows are protected. Under the participation scheme, 1,81,418 destitute cows have been handed over to 1,13,631 beneficiaries. The government is spending approximately Rs 6.5 crore per day on the protection of cows.

The Minister said that the Animal Husbandry Department is setting up cow lamps, incense sticks, golags, cow dung pots, vermi compost and biogas production units from cow dung to make the cow shelters self-reliant. Women self-help groups are being involved in their operation.

He also launched the 7th phase of the National Foot and Mouth Disease Control Campaign which will run till March 8. Additional Chief Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Mukesh Kumar Meshram, Special Secretary Devendra Kumar Pandey, Director Administration and Development Dr. Mempal Singh, Director Disease Control and Field Dr. Rajendra Prasad etc. were present in the program.
