Jagran correspondent, Jalandhar. Telecom companies providing broadband and other services in the city have not paid fees to the Municipal Corporation for the last 10 years. The corporation has given more than 100 approvals to companies in the last years. For all these approvals, companies have to pay fees to the corporation. According to the report of the corporation so far, Rs 8 crore has to be recovered from these companies.

Mayor Vaneet Dhir has given instructions to take action against the defaulting companies after taking the report from B&R branch in this entire matter. Telecom companies had taken permission for setting up poles and preparing their own manholes for the last ten years.

The corporation charges fees for the damage caused by using the roads for this. The Mayor had given instructions to extract the old permission files of telecom companies and prepare a list.

Companies suffered huge losses

The Mayor called SE Rajneesh Dogra of BNR Department and directed that the process of collecting fees from these companies should be started. Notices should be issued to companies which do not pay fees. The work of laying wires of these companies should also be stopped. The corporation has suffered huge losses due to these companies. Companies have broken roads at many places, but the corporation had to do the work of repairing them.

While laying underground wires at many places, the sewerage and water underground infrastructure of the corporation has been damaged. Dainik Jagran had raised the issue of people's problems and deterioration of the city's image due to wires hanging at various places in the city, haphazardly installed poles and digging of roads due to private telecom companies. Then DC had warned these companies.
