Technology based logistics services reduced costs.
Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. Technology-based freight transportation services are playing a key role in reducing logistics costs within cities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), a study conducted in collaboration with IIT Delhi has revealed. This report of the Center for Digital Economy Policy Research (C-DEP) was released at the India Habitat Centre.
According to the study, MSMEs are the backbone of the country's economy, but they face problems like high expenses, wastage of time and non-availability of reliable vehicles in intra-city freight transportation. Technology-enabled goods transportation services have reduced these challenges to a great extent.
It was reported in the report that about 71 percent of the users of these services are related to business and about 97 percent of the freight movement in cities is being done through these platforms.
73 percent of the MSMEs surveyed reported reduction in transportation costs and 95 percent reported improvement in on-time delivery. According to Professor P. Vigneshwar Ilavarasan, Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi, due to timely availability of vehicles and availability of equipment as per requirement, small businessmen are able to fulfill more orders without additional investment.
