In Sonipat Sugar Mill, the machines stopped just 24 hours after the beginning of the crushing season. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, Sonipat. At Sonipat Sugar Mill on Kami Road, machines stopped working just 24 hours after the beginning of the crushing season. Despite issuing slips for 65,000 quintals of sugarcane to farmers, only 12,000 quintals of sugarcane reached the yard till Friday evening, due to which crushing could not begin. Due to non-availability of sugarcane for the next two-three days, crushing will be stopped.
This year, the crushing season started behind schedule due to delay in repair work at Sonipat Sugar Mill. On Thursday, Cabinet Minister Dr. Arvind Sharma inaugurated the crushing, which brought relief to the farmers. Even after the inauguration, the functioning of the mill was hampered due to non-arrival of sugarcane as expected. The crushing capacity of the mill is 22,000 quintals per day, and the yard needs at least 20,000 quintals of sugarcane to start functioning.
In view of the short supply of sugarcane, the mill administration on Friday released 30 per cent additional weight till December 10. Under this scheme, farmers will be able to bring 30 percent more sugarcane to the mill than their slip. Apart from this, mill administration teams are visiting rural areas to encourage farmers to send sugarcane quickly. Early variety slips are being issued now, and the mill has taken 32 lakh quintals of sugarcane for this season. The target is to complete the crushing by the last week of April.
Slips worth 65,000 quintals have been issued to the farmers. Crushing will start immediately as soon as the sugarcane is loaded in the yard. Necessary steps have been taken for the convenience of farmers. All farmers should reach the mill with sugarcane as soon as possible.
