Now Mahakumbh will be held here after every 12 years. All India Sanatan Samaj has made Papaharani Sarovar the door of salvation for the peace of the souls of tribal brave sacrificers and ancestors. It is said that the history of this lake dates back to the seventh century. In ancient times, this lake was known as Manohar Kund. According to folk tales, King Aditya Sen of Magadha came here to bathe with his wife Queen Kon Devi. At that time the king was suffering from skin disease, but after bathing in the pond he became free from the disease. Influenced by this miraculous experience, Rani Kon Devi got a pond dug on Makar Sankranti for the purpose of public welfare and religious faith and named it Papaharani Sarovar.

It is believed that bathing in this lake destroys sins. The special thing is that Makar Sankranti is considered to be the foundation day of Papaharani Sarovar. Safa Dharma was established here by Chander Das on the day of Makar Sankranti in the year 1934. For this reason, tribal communities also consider him as their favorite deity. Every year, tribal people from different provinces of the country including Bihar, Jharkhand, Nepal, Orissa come here and perform rigorous penance in Mandar. Along with Lord Ram and Lord Shiva, the presiding deity Marang is worshipped. Seeing the crowd of tribals arriving from different provinces, it seems that a river of devotion flows here.
On the lines of Prayagraj in UP, now Mahakumbh will be organized here also at an interval of every 12 years. Akhil Bharatiya Sanatan Samaj has organized it this time. District full-time head of Dharma Jagran Coordination, Jeev Lal Kumar said that the Pind Daan of the ancestors and martyrs of the Santal community will now be done permanently at Papaharani Sarovar located in Mandar. Earlier this Pind Daan was done in the Damodar River of Jharkhand state, but now this tradition has been forever associated with Papaharani Sarovar. On Tuesday, after bathing, the program of salvation took place. In this, salvation was organized for thousands. Apart from this, the sacred festival of tribals Sohrai (Vandana) is also celebrated in the same interval from 11 January to 15 January. Due to this, the faith of the tribals in Mandar has become unbroken.
