Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. A massive fire broke out in the Cell Tax building located near the planetarium late on Friday night. The cell tax office located on the first floor was completely gutted due to the fire. In the preliminary investigation, the cause of the fire is believed to be short circuit. It was fortunate that the office was closed at the time of the incident, due to which there was no loss of life.
At around 1:45 pm, a plume of smoke and bright flames were seen rising from the first floor of the building. Within some time the fire took a huge form. Seeing the flames, there was panic among the nearby people and immediately information was given to the fire department and Ramgarhtal police station.
As soon as the information was received, several fire brigade vehicles reached the spot. The police also secured the area and controlled the traffic. Fire fighters brought the fire under control after about 45 minutes of hard work. By then the furniture, computers, files, important documents and other items kept in the office were completely burnt.
On receiving information about the fire, departmental officials also reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The damage caused by the fire is being assessed. According to officials, the actual cause of the fire can be confirmed only after a detailed investigation. Ramgarhtal police station incharge Nitin Raghunath said that in the initial investigation there is a possibility of fire due to short circuit. He told that due to timely control of the fire, the fire could not spread further below.
