State Bureau, Jagran, Kolkata. During the budget session of the Bengal Assembly on Friday, TMC MLA and North Bengal Development Minister Udayan Guha and opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari dragged each other's father into a controversy. There was a heated argument between the two regarding this. Both their fathers have been public representatives for a long time.
During the debate on the budget, Suvendu told Udayan that you had called your father a thief. Hearing this, Trinamool MLAs became vocal. When an altercation started between the two, Speaker Biman Banerjee pacified both Udayan and Suvendu and asked them to speak again.
Accusations and counter-accusations against each other
Then with the permission of the Speaker, Udayan Guha said that my father Kamal Guha has been MLA seven times. He remained a minister for 19 years. I had made some criticisms on my father's political activities. But Suvendu please prove that I had called my father a thief.
After this Udayan Guha said that you are the son of Shishir Babu (Shishir Adhikari). But you call yourself Modi's son. So whose son are you actually? Let us tell you that Shishir Adhikari has also been a Union Minister.
Udayan Guha's comments sparked heated debate in the budget session. Both sides made allegations and counter-accusations against each other and raised slogans. After this the Speaker announced that no one's statement on this issue was being kept on record. But this kind of tension in the assembly regarding the father is unprecedented.
